I’ve just finished and released the first version of my WoW Item Compare Tool.
Check it out:
http://oneroguesjourney.com/itemCompare/
Quick explanation: It allows for easy side by side comparisons of any two items. It is still a work in progress so post any bugs as a comment to this post.
Future additions:
- Gem integration
- Armory integration
After the break I get all technical about how it works.
The item information is provided by the wonderful website Wowhead. With the help of the fabulous jQuery library I search their XML feed to find your item.
Once the items are selected I parse through the tooltip to gather information about the various stats of the item. Things get a little tricky here as this information isn’t in nicely formated XML like the search and inconsistencies in the way certain effects are written (I’m looking at you damage and healing by up to) make writing a universal parser impossible. I believe I have coded for every possible outcome but my testing monkey friend can only do so much testing on his own, so if you see any problems and weirdness feel free to leave a comment.
