There isn’t a whole lot to say about the glyphs in Wrath for rogues. Fact of the matter is, that for your raiding rogue there are 2 glyphs that absolutely must be used, no ifs ands or buts. Combat rogues have their third glyph set in stone as well while Mutilate rogues are left scratching their butts with those fast daggers of theirs.

Must Haves

Slice and Dice and Rupture are the two key finishers of any rogue’s rotation and by extending the duration of them you give yourself some more elbow room in your rotation for one of the big Es (Eviscerate or Envenom). I strongly believe that these are a must have for any raiding rogue.

Combat

If you’re a combat spec’d rogue and you do not have this glyph you need to alt+tab right now, load up the game and get it. Go ahead, I’ll wait. Done? Good. You’ll thank me later. The extra combo points you gain are a blessing and I guarantee that once you’ve played with it you’ll wonder how you ever lived with out it.

Mutilate

Sorry champ, I really have nothing for you here. Don’t blame me though, blame Blizzard. There is just no third major glyph that lends itself to a Mutilate build. Glyph of Vigor seems alright, but I honestly haven’t seen very many Mutilate builds that even use Vigor. For now, all I can say is to pick one that tickles your fancy and then hope Blizz adds a Glyph of Mutilate or Glyph of Envenom sometime in the future.

  1. I use the Glyph of Eviscerate for my third one as a mutilate spec. It’s really nice for questing and trash mobs.

  2. I picked Glyph of Garrote for my 3rd Major, as Mutilate spec. I considered Vigor (because being able to do 2x Mutilate back to back when starting with a full energy bar is kind of hot) but it only takes a second or two to generate another 10 energy so… meh.

  3. So as you suggested yesterday the otehrday before this article, I got the SinisterStrike one.. How did I live without all those combo points? Its like combopoint heaven..

  4. Hi there. Nice website. I came across it while looking for a Tricks macro and also found the rest of the content informative.

As far as questions go, do you know anything about Deep Sub in raiding? I’ve been hearing a lot of buzz about HaT builds, but not a lot about how they work.

    Keep up the good work.

  5. What about adrenaline rush for combat I use this SnD and sinister strike 1 min CD off AR is beast

  6. I agree, the AR glyph is a great one and would be the one I would be using if I had another slot.

In the end it comes down to personal preference, I wouldn’t fault anyone for using the AR glyph but, to me, the extra rupture time is the winner.

  7. can someone leave a great raid dps spanning tree chart for combat — daggers

  8. As a mutilate spec rogue, i started with the garrote, rupture, and vigor glyphs. but i found that my dps was lacking,
so then i got a tip that i shouldnt open up with garrote because it sets my rotation off. Instead i got the tip to start off with mutilate for many reasons
    1) its a part of the rotation
    2) mutilate can do more if crit (depending on gear )instead of 3000-3250 damage with garrote
    3) Finally if you crit with mutilate, you gain an extra combo point which will help your dps.
at first i didnt beleive it, but i rose from 10 to 4 on my guild dps charts.
i went from 2.5k dps (without buffs) to 2.9-3.1k on target dummies heroic.
it actually works, so now im a rogue with the glyphs…
Slice and Dice, Rupture, and Vigor.

Well im just putting this information out there, cuz it was an amazing discovery to me

  9. The points for opening with Mutilate are all valid, however since you’re going to be opening from stealth maybe you should try opening with Ambush instead of Mutilate since it too gives 2 or 3 combo points.

  10. ermm i dont know if you guys know mut rogues by reading this, but you start with a garrote that way hunger for blood is up srait away then i would say SnD then you will have enough time to get 2xmuti in then envenom to refresh it

  11. I have a question about SnD? Does the improved SnD talent, also, help to improve the SnD glyph? I can’t seem to find any info on that.

  12. Yeah combat rouges shouldnt be using daggers. at least for main hand. I use AR KS and SD. Blade Flurry+Killing Spree+Trinket= major dps. If you do a quick SD before that when you come out of it youll be hitting other targets more until your Blade Flurry wears off. Massive opening move so make sure that you tricks your tank !BEFORE! you do it or your likely to get 1 hit by bosses as tanks normally cant front load enough damage to keep the threat off you at higher gear levels.
