just to try it out, i put 5 points in improved poinson then i applied instant poison to both of my weapons then hit up the dummy using no aoe. i wrote down what i got from the overall dmg and dps. then i re-speced and put 0 points in Improved poisons, and 2 points in vile poisons. I applied wound poison to both of my weapons, then hit up the same dummy, using no aoe.

from what i got wound poison does more dmg and dps overall, than instant does with 5 points of Improved poison

Mmkay, I am just going to add for the people who are wondering about envenom for combat. I would say nay to using it. When specced into assassination properly, envenom has massive damage. If not evisc blows it out of the water.

Great write-up. I linked it in my blog at http://feelingstabby.wordpress.com. Great to see someone explaining class mechanics in such a clear manner. Thanks for the post.

Cheers!

Ummm not to burst your bubble but Combat is better than Mutilate if you take the best gear and best weapons (ie. Double Webbed death for assass or Calamity's grasp and hail storm for combat)

Yes, you should expect to do less damage as Combat than Mutilate on most boss fights. Combat is just the weaker tree right now.

As far as Envenom vs Eviscerate in your combat rotation, while that is very gear dependent and I would consult a spreadsheet to find out which is best for you.

OK, so are you suggesting Wound on both weapons and Eviscerating? Currently I am doing Deadly on MH (Calamity's Grasp)and Wound on OH (Webbed Death). Of course I just respecced last night to give combat a chance even tho I do have 2 Webbed Deaths.

Side a note, after last nights Naxx clear I found I dropped about 3 spots from #2/3 to #5/6 on boss fights, but decimated on clearing trash easily placing 1st on meters, this sound about right?
