Here we go again, one more time into the breach my friends. So my adventures into PvP turned out to be pretty much a wash as I found myself respec’d into Combat PvE by Wednesday. What can I say, I just can’t stay away. On a nice note, my group managed to pick up The Undying title despite having me along, crazy awesome stuff. I’ll hop back into PvP a little once dual specs are out.
One of my awesome readers gave me a really nice idea yesterday: To have a compendium of various UIs for people to look at and learn from. If you think you have a cool and/or functional UI send me a screenshot at oneroguesjourney (at) gmail (dot) com, try to send a pic both in and out of combat if you can (there’s a lot to a UI that’s not seen outside of combat).

Answer another “Ask Zaltu” question and finish up another Friday Morning Mod video. This week, AG_Unitframes!
So I’m pretty busy as of late, but I’m doing my best to keep up with everything.
Yes, you read that headline right. I’m shaking things up around here. I was scraping the bottom of the barrel a little bit when it came to macros so I decided that I would focus this week’s “Friday Morning…” on a mod. So today I’m going to be talking about the setup and use of the ClassTimer mod. But that’s not all! Yes, the shakeups keep coming because I decided to do this in the form of a video. If a picture is worth a thousand words than moving pictures must worth at least…seven thousand words (please don’t check my math on this one). So, here goes:
Making the video was a new and fun experience for me (if not a bit nerve wracking) so I’m really interested in feedback on this one. Should I keep these up? If so, what mod are you interested in hearing about? Leave a comment or drop me a line.
I’m going to jump right into this one. Here are two new notes from the PTR that I haven’t discussed yet.
Shiv: This ability can no longer generate a critical strike, and the poisons it applies cannot be critical strikes either.
So there you have it. Blizzard’s answer to the Shiv Build that’s started to float around recently. I was never a huge fan of this build (no real reason, it just didn’t “feel” right) so I’m not exactly heartbroken over this. Blizzard has stated before that they don’t want Shiv to be a main combo point builder for us, in fact that’s why they removed it’s ability to proc Combat Potency in the beta. I feel this is a pretty solid way to kill that build.
Glyph of Backstab: Now increases remaining duration on Rupture by 2 sec. each time it is used, up to a maximum of 6 sec.
Ah, backstab. I love you so much. It is far beyond the normal acceptable love that a man can have for an ability (is there such a thing) and borders far into the realm of weird coming out the other end into a land know as creepy. The backstab mechanic feels to me to be the truest in nature to rogues, but it contains some fatal flaws that keep it from being a truly viable top spec. Namely, inferior combo point generation, and a positional requirement.
Backstab costs as much energy as Mutilate but rewards one less combo point so it’s combo point generation is going to be much much lower. This glyph is a good way to help that, it will allow for higher rupture uptime with fewer combo points – bravo Blizzard. Unfortunately there is still the problem of the positional requirement. Granted you are suppose to be behind the mob as much as possible, there are still too many fights requiring a lot of movement and it can be difficult to always be in that 90 to 270 degree sweet spot, thus forcing no attack or an inferior (based on your inherently faster weapon speed) sinister strike.
It is a rough situation. I don’t feel that removing the positional requirement is the answer (it is, after all, backstab). But something has to be done if Combat Daggers is ever going to be a top spec (and maybe they don’t think it should be which is fair but sad). Perhaps allowing it to generate another combo point on critical strike or lowering the energy cost.
Stay tuned this week for some potential 3.1 rogue builds!
Hello World and welcome to the week. I had a pretty solid time last week. On Saturday we ran some premade AVs to pick up some free honor and achievements and it was one hell of a good time, definitely looking forward to a repeat performance this weekend.
So I did a little bit of thinking and I decided that since I don’t have a raid spot (and most likely won’t anytime in the near future) I should shift my focus and give this whole PvP and Arena thing a try. I’ve respec to a Mut/Prep build. It’s probably not perfect, but it is my first stab at it (pun definitely intended). I ran a couple of 3v3s in which I did a horrible, horrible job but I shall redeem myself in due time. I’ve downloaded Gladius and I’m planning on doing a lot of research. I’m going to stick with PvP probably until 3.1. Should be a fun adventure.
