With the landing of patch 3.1 onto our grubby little hard drives (you really should clean that thing you know, what would your mother think?), Combat is back in vogue. This has made me happy in indescribable, unnatural and most likely unhealthy ways. My unending desire for a combination of bits and bytes aside, I believe that the Combat build has a few little tricks to help you eek the absolute most out of your DPS. I’m going to share one with you today. Damn I’m a nice guy (also handsome).

Killing Spree

Killing Spree (KS) is the 51-point Combat talent introduced in Wrath.  The ability was/is extremely fun to use, though at launch it was a bit underwhelming (Combat as a whole was but that’s not what held KS back).  While it was a nice burst to combine with Tricks of the Trade and a good opportunity to pool a little bit of energy, it was missing that “IT” factor that really made it “pop”.

Enter patch 3.1 and the addition of a single line that changed everything:

and increasing all damage done by 20% for the duration.

Now, you must be asking yourself: All damage? So your KS attacks are done for 20% more damage, that’s pretty cool I guess but how does that change how it is used? Well my friend, here’s the deal: you continue white attacks during Killing Spree. This means that Killing spree syncs up AMAZINGLY with your attack speed increasing abilities.

Knowing this, it is a simple leap in logic to remember to put up Slice and Dice and pop Blade Flurry right before you killing spree to make sure that you get the maximum amount of white attacks in during that 20% damage buff! What this also means is that Killing Spree synergizes perfectly with Bloodlust/Heroism!

I hope this tip helps you. Always remember that stacking your abilities and cooldowns in just the right way can have a significant affect on your DPS.

  1. Awesome tip. Simply awesome. I myself is a mutilate rogue…i have the gear to switch to combat but I just can’t seem to bring myself to do it. I love mutilate too much.

For me, on a single mob or boss I garrote, slice and dice, HfB, (hopefully the SnD gave me a combo pt) and i envenom to refresh hunger for blood then start my normal cycle.

On multiple mob pulls i do the same thing cept i spam the crapola out of fan of knives and hit ToTT before i garrote onto my MT and watch my DPS fly up to 21,000 for a brief 20 secs or so. I can’t wait for the T8 bonus to get more energy pooled from my Deadly poisons =)

also being a BE, hitting arcane torrent to get that small burst of energy really helps out esp in situations where i may lose my rotation cuz of lack of energy.

  2. so….thinking about this,

do you think rupture also stacks with it?
i know it doesn’t mean much at first,
but with a t8 4 set and a rupture crit
    do you think that matters?

kind of meaningless i know, but interesting i think

  3. I don’t think it applies to rupture, i think it probably only applies to attacks made during the killing spree

  4. I did see that “20%” line in the notes and can really tell a difference. I was toying with the idea of replacing one of my glyphs with the KS glyph and think that now is the time to reduce that cooldown by 45 sec.! Great tip.

  5. I would say definitely use the glyph, i replaced glyph of snd with it, snd really isnt that hard to keep up anyways

  6. Should we get the KS glyph with this? or stick with the SnD glyph
