BTW to clarify that 4k dps in 25 mans with buffs. And I understand I am missing the Envenom buff but my question is if you do more overall damage and DPS to bosses without the buff is it really worth it? Especially with how hard it is to get groups as a rogue when all you ever see in LFG channel is “LFM ranged DPS”. I’m not questioning your knowledge here just trying to see if I am missing something. Thanks again.

I meant higher overall damage in raid boss fights, but maybe i’ll try switching out Envenoms again just to be sure. I’m currently around 4k DPS with Eviscerate.Thanks for your insights.

@Egarim, yes, maybe the eviscerate itself will do more damage but what you’re missing is all the extra instant poison procs you get from the envenom buff

I know other mutilate spec rogues always say to use Envenom, but I notice I do more damage with my Eviscerate glyph and Improved Eviscerate talent than doing Envenom. Anyone else with these talents find similar results?

Sure, and I wouldn’t say envenom does “a lot more” damage than eviscerate. We’re not talking about huge numbers here; as a percentage of your total DPS it’s going to be dwarfed by your white attacks and mutilates either way.

It depends to some extent on whether you spec Master Poisoner or not, but even if you do, that still means the strong part about envenom is the buff and not the actual damage it does.

Chronic, I wouldn’t say you lose a lot of damage clearing the DP stack, at least for me it doesn’t take more than a few seconds to refill.

This isn’t quite true – the damage is higher of course, but you lose a lot of damage from clearing your DP stack. The main reason a mutilate rogue would use envenom over eviscerate is for the buff that it applies which increases your instant poison proc chance. Instant poison represents a significant component of your dps, and this is why energy pooling (to get more mutilates in the duration of the envenom buff) is much more important for assassination.

And, of course, the reason combat has to stick with eviscerate is that combat uses WP/DP and gets no benefit from the buff.
