So apparently, there was some sort of event over California-way this last weekend.
And we weren’t invited? What the hell?
I know, it’s a travesty.
Seriously, where’s the love? Oh well, we probably didn’t miss anything important.
I suppose that all depends on your definition of important. They did announce the new expansion.
You mean the one we won’t be seeing for over a year?
Yeah, that one: Cataclysm.
OK, so I suppose you want to start speculating and talking about all the different things that are for sure going to change and we don’t really have any information on?
Sigh…yeah, I guess so. So, there was a ton of stuff talked about at Blizzcon this year and I’m not going to regurgitate it all. There are plenty of other sites that have done just that. I would just like to take a moment to make a brief, knee-jerk reaction statement to the stat simplification was discussed.
Knee-jerk reactions are the best kind of reactions.
Right, so, Attack power on gear? Gone. Armor Penetration? Gone. Expertise? See ya (I think, I can’t really remember if that’s gone or not). Attack power now comes solely from Agility. Yeah, really. Haste? Well, now it just increases our energy regeneration, actually, that’s really really really awesome.
Are you going to make a point? It’s going to be about the “dumbing-down” of the game isn’t it? You shouldn’t be that guy. Nobody likes that guy.
I hate to say it, but you’re right. It is easy to jump to the conclusion that this is just a dumbing down of the game and blah blah blah, catering to casuals and the like. That’s the kind of stuff that should be saved for the trolls on the official forums. I’m not jumping to any conclusion just yet and I don’t think anyone else should either. I would just like everyone to remember that just because it’s different doesn’t mean it’s going to be bad and just because it may appear simpler (we don’t even really know that it will be) doesn’t mean that it’s watered-down.
Now that I’ve made my Don’t Panic statement I would just say that my initial reaction was one of sadness, while I understand that many people might not like using a spreadsheet to help them with the game, I do, very much so. What can I say, I’m a nerd who likes numbers.
Point? Oh yeah, I’m suppose to have one of those. So, my point is, just relax, the expansion is a long ways away and nothing is set in stone. Besides, shouldn’t we be more focused on patch 3.3 and taking down Mr. McFrosty up in Icecrown? I mean, that’s what we’re doing in Northrend, right?
Hey…normally lurk, but love the blog.
I’ve been thinking about the whole dumbing down thing that’s been floating out there since the weekend.
First off, what we know is that some stats are going away, and some are changing how they affect us. Lots of rogues that I have seen talking so far think this will make the spreadsheet obselete.
I believe in fact that this facet of the rogue’s life will indeed take on a much greater role.
Sure we know that we will likely get 2AP per Agi now. But what are the relative stat weights when Agi is compared to hit and crit (which I don’t believe are going)? That’s the basics of what the spreadsheet does though.
Now take into account how the sheets look at talents. Right now I’d say that they are a less used portion of the spreadsheet, but with Mastery talents and archaeology/Path of Titans coming around, perhaps that piece becomes a greater piece of the puzzle.
And finally, the last reason why i think a spreadsheet will be used is the reforging concept that is being discussed. Perhaps we can come up with a way to use the spreadsheet to figure out how we can adjust the stats on our gear in such a way as to maximize our DPS through reforging.
All in all, I think using a spreadsheet (which i do for both work and recreation) will still be a large part of my gaming.
Melpo
i’d say crit is most definitely going, that and attack power are the 2 stats that you can get just from agility anyways
also, with reforging, you aren’t going to be able to add to a stat that’s already on the item, so if it already has agility (and it damn well better), you won’t be able to add agility to it
They only announced they are removing mp5, arpen, defense rating, spell power, attack power and warlocks. So everything else will still be there.
I don’t love numbers and I hate having to have the spreadsheet to be good at what I’m supposed to do. I mean, I want (and like) to play WoW, not Excel. So losing arpen is fine for me.
And yeah. Don’t Panic!
(and I’m sorry, if any warlock reads that. ;] )

Crit can’t be removed as a stat unless Strength starts giving crit, because warriors, paladins, and DKs are all going to want to be able to increase their crit rates, and their gear won’t have agility.
Yeah I guess, but I think straight Agility is probably always going to be better for rogues
It does make me sad to see some stats go, though, I liked having a class that wasn’t overly simple
“They only announced they are removing mp5, arpen, defense rating, spell power, attack power and warlocks…”
They arnt removing warlocks lawl. They are removing soul shards from warlocks bags and adding them to the UI instead. Makes me laugh when people dont think before they post. You really think Actilizzard would take away a class? Are you crazy? They would lose tons of revenue, and most probably generate massive amounts of nerd haterade, so no, warlocks arent gone, they are just getting simpler. lol.
I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that was sarcasm
Also, I am happy about 1 change, haste
[...] for the casters, with removal of both MP5 and spell power, so they are panicking a bit more than we rogues are, but remember folks. It’s getting easier, not too easy. You will still have your stats, it [...]
@Jet – Makes me laugh when people don’t read whole comments.
Always some that will eat the hook, always.
And yeah, the haste change is actually very cool.

seems like 80% of everyone I have as a customer coming for a dreadstone.. Doesn’t realize that there’s also a + 10 ALL stats gem ingame wich definatelly provides more dps than shifting dreadstone cause you get + 10 Agility and + 10 strength so that’s 10 ap extra in the pocket plus the fact that Nightmare Tear is prismatic and will allow you to loose your orange gem and just go all red and still have your meta work.
