First, the rogue specific changes:

  • Fan of Knives now causes 105% weapon damage with daggers (down from 150%) and 70% weapon damage with all other weapons. (Down from 100%)
  • Throwing Specialization no longer affects Fan of Knives.
  • Envenom’s scaling has been increased from 7% to 9% of attack power per combo point.
  • Master Poisoner: Now also provides a 33/66/100% chance of preventing Envenom from consuming Deadly Poison.

Those first two were already know and we talked about them. They make us sad but we understand.

You understand, I liked being the top AOE.

Yeah, but was it fair?

Of course it wasn’t fair, but it was awesome and we deserve it because…uh…we just do.

The next two are decent buffs to our Assassination brethern and sistern, who were already beginning to fall behind Combat and was only going to slip further and further behind as those of us of the Combat persuasion gobbled up more and more Armor Penetration.

Decent way to give them a helping hand. I figured they would have just tacked more damage onto Hunger For Blood.

The next thing I found most exciting, while not rogue specific, is the return of leatherworking drums.

  • Drums of Forgotten Kings – Heavy Borean Leather x 8, Icy Dragonscale x 8 – Gives all members of the raid or group the Blessing of Forgotten Kings, increasing total stats by 8% for 30 min.
  • Drums of the Wild – Heavy Borean Leather x 4, Jormungar Scale x 20 – Gives the Gift of the Wild to all party and raid members, increasing armor by 750, all attributes by 37 and all resistances by 54 for 1 hr.

What the hell? This is what we get? What happen to my awesome haste buff?

Yeah, yeah, they aren’t the same as they were (or even close) but they removed them for a reason (Blizzard hates ultra heavy beats – there, I said it) but it’s a step in the right direction, right?

Maybe, those buffs look awfully familiar, don’t you think?

OK fine, so they probably won’t stack with Blessing of Kings or Mark of the Wild but a rogue can dream can’t he? A rogue can dream.

  1. I’m I the only one that got a horrible sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach when I read about those LW drums? I do NOT want to go back to the Bad Old Days when a rogue had no choice but to be a leatherworker to join a group or raid to provide the buffs.
At the debut of WotLK we were unwanted in groups, due to the perception that we brought no utility or party-wide benefits. FoK eventually changed that. In the age of ‘AoE everything’ we could mow down packs of trash as well as do tremendous single-target DPS. I have no problem with the nerf for essentially the same reasons as Zaltu has stated: if we’re going to do so much single-target DPS it’s not really fair that we also beat other classes at AoE.
But I pray to God (or Buddha or Zarathustra or anybody who’s listening) that we as a CLASS receive some sort of group buff to make up for the loss of desireablity, and not be forced to take a particular profession.

  2. Those drums look nifty, and its kinda nice that they don’t provide a unique buff like the Drums of War did. They’re an alternate avenue for those buffs. More importantly, leatherworkers can use them as self-buffs outside of raids. :D

  3. I only have one word that comes to mind…poo

  4. I’ve been a longtime fan of rogues, and even have an 80, and a twink or two scattered amoung the servers, but I’ve found them a bit lackluster to play recently. I want to play them, heck, I love the idea of rogue. I play rogue/shadowdancer in D&D (stuck in 3.5 rules) Any tips on bringing the love back to the rogue class for me?

If nothing else, I’ll be rolling a rogue worgen in the next expansion! That ought to bring back some life for me!

  5. I crafted these this past weekend and really like the benefits it gives to 5-man groups and soloing. Boosts agility quite a bit and what rogue couldn’t use some extra armor? You don’t have to be a leatherworker to use these do you? The main thing I don’t like about them is there are a finite number of uses… you need to keep making them.
